It's like Christmas!

First my child potty trains, then I walk outside to see this:

For those of you not in Austin, this is the new recycling bin from the City of Austin. We can now recycle paperboard, plastics 1-7 and cardboard, plus the usual stuff like glass and aluminum, paper, etc, by just throwing it all in the bin. Now I can finally get rid of that giant pile of cardboard in my garage!

Sweet! I'm stoked! Of course we can't just wheel that into the kitchen during parties... :D

I'm still anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new can. I figure a lil blue box can suffice for parties or for convience near the door, then the little box can be tumped into the bigger bin. I can't believe I'm jealous of your recycling capabilities!

I have to say I am utterly amazed that Dallas is ahead of you guys on this. Usually Austin is way more green than us overall. But yay! Those cans are so nice to have. They only come pick ours up every other week though, so it's always full with extra sitting on the porch.

It took me 2 pickups to get through the backlog, and I had gone to Eco-Action with the cardboard/paperboard just a month earlier. The biggest treat is being able to recycle all those food containers that used to have to get thrown away (even EA didn't take those).

We still have the bins, so our recycling ends up all over the street and in the culvert. Some day... At least they come pick it up every other week.

I'm so excited for you guys, though!
